The astute god of autumn and wind, Kurama, was sealed within a sacred mikoshi and had not been seen by the people of Autumn Village in well over 50 years. He gave the protagonist, the Rune Dancer, a divine dream to tell them not to unseal him. This was because...
... he's a big shut-in and just wanted to play games.
It's slightly more complicated than that but Kurama does love games of all types and cares deeply about their rules and balance. He even seems to have access to games and genres that don't exist in the world at large. His fellow gods simply view his references to "drop rates" "rerolling" and "server maintenance" as one of his quirks. His love of games means he often entertains the village children and is far more nurturing than people expect.
The Rune Dancer restoring his divinity means he's getting fresh air much more often. He frequently plays with the young tanuki, Kotaro, eats at Yachiyo's Izakaya, and deals with the rambunctious oni, Kai. Despite his complaints about being unsealed, he does care deeply about the people of Azuma and does his best as one of its deities.
He adores sweets and hates mackerel.
